Art project

Ten visual artists are creating works of art for ZEBRA in 2009.

The art is based on the history of people who have been in connection with ZEBRA within the past 22 years. People who got in touch with ZEBRA and who's lives have been changed because of this contact. In some cases these contacts took place many years ago. These people have moved on in their lives. They have become citizens. They have established a new live. They have settled in their new home country. It is this live cycle our interest is dedicated to.

The life cycle of ZEBRA has been influenced by this kind of encounter as well. People working at ZEBRA have been influenced sustainably. The organization has moved on and changed as well. The political circumstances are described along with the biographical works: 22 years of migration and asylum policy in Austria. There have been various refugee movements to Austria. First, the collapse of the former Eastern Block, then the breakup of Yugoslavia, more actual hot spots like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya as well as migration movements from Turkey, Estern and Southern Europe and Africa. They are all reflected in the work of ZEBRA.
